چکیده

The aim of this study was to review the effect of estrogen on growth hormone secretion and the roles of estrogen and growth hormone in reproductive function. Estrogen is the main hormone affecting growth, development, maturation and functioning of reproductive tract as well as the sexual differentiation and the behavior. Growth hormone is also important factor in sexual maturation and attainment of puberty. The impact of estrogen on growth hormone secretion has been reported in rodents and primates. However, the precise mechanism for the alterations in growth hormone secretion is not clearly known. Estrogen may possibility have a direct affect on growth hormone secretion via the binding to estrogen receptor-α due to its co-expression in growth hormone neurons in the medial preoptic area and arcuate nucleus. Estrogen may also have an indirect effect via the reducing insulin-like growth factor-1 feedback inhibition resulting with increased growth hormone secretion.

Function of estrogen receptor (ER) in gene expression.

Estrogen (E2) plays significant roles in ligand target organs such as the reproductive organs, bone and the brain. This female steroid hormone is well known also to be deeply involved in cancer development in the reproductive organs. The majority of E2 actions are mediated through its nuclear estrogen receptor (ER). ERa and ER~ are members of the steroid/thyroid hormone nuclear receptor superfa...

The relationship between growth hormone polymorphism and growth hormone receptor genes with milk yield and reproductive performance in Holstein dairy cows

The aim of this study was to investigate the potential association between growth hormone GH/AluI and growth hormone receptor GHR/AluI polymorphisms with milk yield and reproductive performances in Holstein dairy cows in Iran. Blood samples of 150 Holstein cows were collected and their genomic DNA was extracted using Gene-Fanavaran DNA extracting kit. Fragments of the 428 bp of exon 5 growth ho...

Functions and physiological roles of two types of estrogen receptors, ERα and ERβ, identified by estrogen receptor knockout mouse

Estrogens, a class of steroid hormones, regulate the growth, development, and physiology of the human reproductive system. Estrogens also involve in the neuroendocrine, skeletal, adipogenesis, and cardiovascular systems. Estrogen signaling pathways are selectively stimulated or inhibited depending on a balance between the activities of estrogen receptor (ER) α or ERβ in target organs. ERs belon...

Growth hormone, functions and the ability to use it in ornamental fish

The growth hormone in fish is involved in most of the physiological processes in the body, including the growth of soft and hard tissues, protein metabolism, lipid and carbohydrate, ionic regulation and osmotic balance, reproductive function, and immune system. Since the study on the use of growth hormone in ornamental fish is not available, the present study aims to regulate neuroendocrine gro...

Combinatorial Phage Library Screening for Estrogen Receptor Interacting Peptides and Applications to the Study of Xenoestrogen Biology and Pharmacology

The steroid hormone estrogen is a key regulator of growth, differentiation and function of a wide variety of target tissues of diverse function. Estrogen plays a critical role in the development of the female reproductive system, in directing neuroendocrine control of ovulation, and in regulating female sexual behavior. In addition, however, this hormone clearly has functions in tissues other t...
